Updating your video card drivers is very important. You always need the most up to date drivers to keep your hardware free of bugs and glitches in the performance. Visit your card manufacture's website to receive the latest drivers or if they have an automatic update utility, that should make it a lot more easier.

Scan Your Hard Drive for Errors

Having errors on your hard drive can cause programs to run incorrectly and even crash the computer. This problem is easily combated with a program that comes with Windows. Using the Scan Disk feature in the System Tools folder in the Accessories folder (view the picture below). If you have the problem of scanning reseting, try closing down all running programs, you can do this by pressing control+alt+delete and closing down all programs besides Explorer. This should solve the problem. (Pushing this with Windows 3.11 or lower will cause system to restart)

Defragment Your Hard Drive

After using your system for a while and writing , reading, moving, installing, ect. files, the system can get files that should be close together fragmented throughout the whole hard drive, making the system have to look for it, thus increasing load times. Defragmenting your hard drive can be accessed the same way as scanning for errors. Defrag requires that the system be free of errors so run ScanDisk first.
