The Importance of Point of View in the Story "Girl" |
|
Have you ever felt that your parents ask too much of you? In the story "Girl", by Jamaica Kincaid, we read about the relationship between what appears to be a mother and a daughter. The story is written through the perspective of the daughter and we can sympthasize with her, because her mother seems to be telling her how to live her life, and what to do and what not to do. In this story, we can realize how important point of view is, and because its clear to us that we don't know the actual words of the mother, we only know her words through her daughter's ears. KIncaid chooses this highly biased narrative technique to best convey the daughter's intense relationship with her mother. |
