Macbeth
In this play by Shakespeare,
there is a struggle for power in Scotland. This is Shakespeare's boldest
drama. We see the King of Scotland and his loyal subjects at the beginning
of the book, they are in a battle. A powerful lord, Macbeth was the boldest
and most influential warrior. The king orders the the oppositions leader,
the Thane of Cawdor to be executed. Macbeth, is given the thane's property
and title. Shortly before this Macbeth and his friend Banquo meet some
witches on the road who predict the future to them. They say that Macbeth
will be king and will also become the Thane of Cawdor. However, Banquos'
sons are predicted to be the future kings. This starts Macbeth's obsession
with eventually becoming King and getting rid of all his enemies. This
sets the story up for a look into the politics of Shakespeare and the
tragedy of Macbeth.
