Where the Red Fern Grows
Where the Red Fern Grows
is a short children's book written by Wilson Rawls. The book is about
a young boy named Billy Colman who lives in a small town in Oklahoma
by the woods. Billy has his heart set on buying two hound dogs, and
works for two long years in order to afford them. When he finally does
get the two puppies, they go raccoon hunting and enter in the annual
coon-hunt contest. Billy and his dogs win the gold cup in the contest,
and are very happy. Throughout the book, Billy and his dogs share many
adventures together, but in the end, a fight with a mountain lion ends
in tragedy. This book was very heartwarming, and I cried for hours after
I read it.
