The White Mercedes
"Chris Marshall met the girl
he was going to kill on a warm night in early June. . . ." is the first
sentence of this thrilling tale. Even though the overall idea of what
happens in the end is known, the reader wonders how it could possibly
happen. Seventeen-year-old Chris, who lives and works in Oxford, falls
in love with an elusive girl, Jenny, and while searching for her discovers
the terrible consequences of trusting the wrong person. This story begins
at a formal Oxford ball, focusing on Chris, who is working there, on the
lights. While at this ball, he meets Jenny, a girl who did not get to
this extravagant dance in a conventional fashion, she climbed over the
wall, and could get caught. Chris helps her to escape from trouble, and
falls in love with her, which starts a fascinating string of events.
