Turn of the Century Touristy

Turn of the century Japan, 2 weeks with a well-traveled friend who planned a fabulous trip to vistas, onsens and shrines by train, buses and on foot all across Japan. It was meant to coincide with the changing colors of the foliage.  The five of us immersed our selves in beautifully prepared meals, luxurious healing baths, fed deer and saw only beautiful and breath-taking vistas, despite our misaligned timing in the otherwise lush greens of the exquisite countryside. We were rewarded at the end of our trip, with one cluster of trees that signaled the beginning of the seasonal change we were about to leave behind. What better reason to return to this paradise on the planet

Follow our tour…

in the 23 videos in this playlist, starting from our SFO departure to a return from Tokyo 2 weeks later. For a quick dip, below are a few of my favorite highlights. School girls from Hokkaido, mooncakes in Kyoto, a train and funicular ride to a vegan monastery atop Mt. Koya, and a deer horn trimming ceremony in Nara.

Travel Journal

Created this checkbook-sized journal/ calendar/to help stay on top of departures, expenditures and next day plans in a jam-packed 2 week tour of Japan. As an aid to keep track of day-to-day travel to hither and yon… meals eaten, random thoughts and gathered stamps from the many shrines we visited. Decades later it offers a guide and insight into what was on mind, while I was silently videotaping in that most glorious environment where the language escaped me… and was insufficient for the stunning beauty.
